Most of the music on this site was written on the guitar. Up to this point, nearly all the writing I have done was on the piano or keyboard. In fact very little of it was even suited to guitar.

This is still curious to me in light of the fact that I have been playing guitar many years and my keyboard skills are rudimentary at best. Yet with the advent of home recording on the computer, I delighted in midi composition and wrote a lot of what my wife describes as soundtrack music. You can check out some samples here.

On most of these songs I've written the music and then tried to add lyrics. The music usually flows once I get an idea; the lyrics are much more of a struggle. Sometimes an entire song will seem to appear in my head. I wrote Outta Gas Blues in fifteen minutes, Boka Katorska Bay on the other hand had nonsense words for months. I couldn't find the "word sounds" I wanted. I actually searched the web for something to sound like Boca Bay and found "Boka" Bay in Montenegro. I wrote the song, but knowing nothing about Montenegro, I hope I haven't written something insulting or inappropriate to life there.

Hopefully you will enjoy the songs for whatever reasons appeal to you.

When I first heard the Jimi Hendrix LP Axis Bold as Love, I knew I had to learn to play the guitar. The next few years were very frustrating as I could never make my Harmony arch-top acoustic guitar sound like Jimi but I've been playing ever since and I still love the guitar. I had only been playing acoustic guitar since living in Montreal twenty something years ago, but eventually I took up playing the electric guitar again and started playing with other musicians in various bands. In between those times I became a teacher.

My first job was teaching music. In fact I first started writing tunes that year I worked as a music teacher writing a musical with some of the students at that school. The songs on this page are a lot newer.

My wonderful wife and I have been married over twenty years and we have raised a great son who is a fine musician himself. I'm still teaching and also playing in a great band, The Usual Suspects,  and I'm still excited to discover new musical territory.

The live recordings on the Music page were made at the famous Yale Hotel in Vancouver with the band Krezendo in 2005. I've remixed them with new vocal parts .

The other tunes were done solo at home. The guitar parts were recorded through my Cybertwin amp, the rest of the instrumentation was done with soft-synth sounds on the computer using an old version of Cubase.

The solo recording I've done was not meant for publication, but more to have a record of the songs and to layout how I'd like the song to sound with other players. Actually, the bass, drum and keyboard parts would sound a lot better with more competent players.

No Disguise was the latest song I did by myself and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I'm learning more tricks and getting better at using the software. Of course the songs will sound even better when they are professionally recorded in a studio.
